Jonathan Tannous Rajai Akkawi is an Arab-Greco-American actor, aspiring filmmaker, stand-up comedian, and screenwriter. Born and raised in the Bay Area, he has appeared in many local school productions since age 5 and has developed his craft of acting and writing in English, Arabic (various dialects), & French throughout his academic career – both in high school and university. Jonathan has participated in a broad range of productions & projects including musicals, plays, revues, children’s theater, video production, voice-over acting, festivals, and MC gigs throughout the Bay Area, London and Jordan. He takes particular pride in combining his culture and language into his pieces and productions in the hopes of creating a safer space for Middle Eastern artists and breaking down the racial barriers and apprehension that exists against Middle Eastern artists.
Jonathan holds a B.A. in Molecular and Cellular Biology – Cell Developmental Biology and a minor in Theatre, Dance, & Performances Studies with an emphasis in Acting from the University of California, Berkeley with further supplemental education from the University of London, Queen Mary. During his time, he participated in many student directed pieces including showcases, plays, scenes and even training younger performers. You can currently see him performing at various Middle Eastern Festival and Arabian Culture Nights at local universities throughout the Bay Area including: SJSU, St. Mary’s College, UC Berkeley, and SFSU among a few others.
